Book Review: Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty

*minor spoilers in my analysis*

The Delaney family are each established in their community, lead by their tennis star parents, Joy and Stan. Despite occasionally being at odds and wanting to strangle one another, they’re your typical family who always has one another’s backs. They’re put to the ultimate test when their mother goes missing out of the blue after sending them a very strange text. Do you report your mother missing when your dad is likely the main suspect? And how much do you tell the police? In this family; absence not only makes the heart grow fonder but also causes introspection on what family means to us and how we treat them.

So I do have to start off many saying this book was a very slow build. I was probably over 60% into the book when it got rolling good. With that said, it was an unexpected resolution. The chain of thought unlocked by the bananas was truly relatable for me as that is often how my memories work and it felt nice to see it in fictional characters. I feel like we never truly got to the truth of Savannah’s childhood. Was she a psychopath rewriting history or was she an abused girl trying to work through her traumas? We will never know. This book keeps you on your toes as you suspect everyone and realize everyone has some dirt in their closet. I recommend for those who enjoy a slow burn mystery.
