Book Review: Behind the Red Door by Megan Collins

When Fern Douglas is watching the news alongside her husband and sees Astrid Sullivan’s photo in conjunction with a story that the thirty-four-year-old has gone missing again, a hint of recognition sparks in her brain. Her husband, Eric, reassures her that it’s simply because Astrid went missing twenty years ago before being returned to the side of road weeks later and it was impossible to miss on both the local and national news. Fern’s long-standing nightmares about a young woman reaching out to her for help begin to transform into the shape of Astrid and Fern becomes more and more captivated by the mystery of this missing woman and her possible connection to her. Will Ferm crack the mystery of who took Astrid or will she find herself in harm’s way?

I’m embarrassed to say I hadn’t heard of this book until I happened upon a video on @megancollinswriter’s account talking about book success rates among her books. She started describing the premise and I was so immediately taken that I paused the video and bought it on the spot. I tackled it in one single freaking sitting! I really liked The Winter Sister but this one just hit different and I can see why it’s her fave. This one was so cleverly written and so twisty. I can tell this is one that is going to leave me haunted and thinking about this for months. I highly recommend for those looking for a fast-paced mystery!

TW: kidnapping, gaslighting, child abuse, toxic religious practices, abuse by authority figures
