Book Review: The Broken Girls by Simone St. James

Idlewild Hall was the home for abandoned girls for many years. Four roommates bonded over their secrets and stories in 1950 until one of the girls disappeared. It’s also the place where Fiona Sheridan’s sister’s body was found dumped twenty years ago. In the present - Vermont in 2014 - Fiona is pulling at the thread of the her sister’s case determined to understand if the right man is in prison and why she was slain. Once she gets started pulling though, a tangled web becomes of the freed threads that will blow the doors off three Vermont cases.

This was amazing! This is one of those books that grips you from the start and doesn’t let go even once you’ve finished. I am continually amazed by Simone St. James’ ability to establish these worlds I get completely caught up in. She is a master of weaving several seemingly unrelated stories into one cohesive and satisfying story. I can already tell this is going to be one of my favorite books of the year. I highly recommend this for those who enjoy suspense/mysteries with a paranormal element.

TW: holocaust references, domestic violence, drug abuse, gaslighting, abuse of power
