Book Review: The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager

Actress Casey Fletcher returns to her family cabin on the lake fresh off the loss of her husband and fellow actor to lay low after her alcohol-induced antics land her under intense media scrutiny. Fueled by alcohol and assisted by her deceased husband’s binoculars, Casey takes up neighbor watching, namely her neighbors across the lake, social media tycoon Tom Royce and his former super model-turner philanthropist, Katherine.  Things take an interesting turn when Casey saves her neighbor across the lake from drowning one day and the two strike up a bit of a friendship. When Katherine vanishes the day after Casey hears a lone scream in the middle of the night, Casey becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth of what happened to Katherine. The only problem? Casey has worn out her share of patience and favors. Will Casey crack the case before it’s too late or will the case cause her to crack?

I have to say, I’ve heard less than stellar reviews on this one and I am confused because I really loved this! I thought I had this figured out and definitely did not! I loved the supernatural element thrown in, which is what I’ve grown so fond of with Simone St. James. This was the perfect book to read while snuggled up in the NC mountains, so if you can enjoy while on a mountain getaway, I highly recommend!
