Book Review: The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

Linus Baker has a comfortable and regimented life working as a case worker for the Department in Charge of Magical Youths. He goes to work day in and day out, where he knows the rules book by heart, and returns home each night to his mischievous cat, Calliope, and changes into his monogrammed pajamas. That is until he receives an assignment from the office of Extremely Upper Management to visit an orphanage shrouded in mystery and report back with extremely detailed notes for a month. As Linus learns more about the residents of the home he learns more about himself and what is truly important in life.

I normally do not reach for fantasy books but I had seen wonderful reviews for this book and decided to add it to my list for 2023. I am so glad I did! This book was absolutely wonderful and heartwarming. It had enough intrigue to keep you guessing and reading for that and with touching and interesting character development to boot – for nearly every single character. At times I nearly forgot I was reading and instead just listening to an old friend’s account of a time he visited Marysas Island and fell in love. This tale reminds us not to take anything for face value and to always keep our hearts open for adventure and love. I recommend this to all readers.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 - This is my first 5.5/5 for 2023!
