đWarning: controversial reviewđ
Millie is recently out of prison, trying to start a new life of honest hard work. She just needs someone to give her a chance. The Winchesters seem to live a perfect life - safe from harm in a gated home in a nice community with their perfect family. But beneath the surface lurks a dangerous secret, and Millie is about to learn what that is.
So Iâm going to start my review by addressing the elephant in the room: this book bares an incredible resemblance to âThe Last Mrs. Parrish,â and the final twist feels borrowed from âFinlay Donovan is Killing It.â I know not every book can reinvent the wheel but this had me feeling deja vu from start to finish. With that being said, I did tear through it in a day. Also, the front cover and cover quote, âfrom behind closed doors, she sees everything,â felt misleading given the actual plot? Anyway, these two things in combination put me off a bit and influenced my rating. It was very disappointing given that this book received such high praise on bookstagram and was highly recommended to me. I went in desperate to like it but couldnât shake those vibes, especially after how I felt after reading her book The Wife Upstairs. Iâm going to read the sequel in hopes of it redeeming this for me!
