📌Warning: controversial review📌
Millie is back working for a new couple with a secret nearly as big as their mansion. Despite proclaiming that she has moved past her vigilante days, it’s not long before Millie notes a toxic relationship energy between her new employer and his wife - and it smells like abuse. Will Millie be able to resist her urges to intervene or will she end up in a mess she can’t clean up?
So after I finished The Housemaid I decided to read this to see if improved the bad taste in my mind. My verdict is just meh. This story felt so forced and unrealistic to me. After all Millie has been through, you’d think she would be able to smell a rat and have a heavy guard up around every single person she meets. Also the perfect timing of her former flame (keeping it vague to avoid spoilers) back in her life after such a long period of absence just felt a) way too convenient/good to be true and b) super icky the way he was presented back in such a stalker-y way. Maybe the connection/suspicion I had regarding TH influenced my perspective but I’m gonna take a break from her books for a while.
