Book Review: The Marriage Counselor by Dea Poirier

Thank you to @netgalley, @bookouture, & the author, #deapoirier  for the opportunity to listen to this #audiobookarc in exchange for my #honestreview! The Marriage Counselor is available for preorder now and out April 24.

Adele works as a marriage counselor by trade, carrying on the family legacy her parents left behind before they died. She is happily married to her husband, Patrick, isn’t she? Adele is left spiraling when her police arrive to let her know her husband is suspected to be missing by his employer. An employer that apparently didn’t know he’s been married for the last 7 years. Struggling to make sense of a husband who was very different from the man she believes she was married to, Adele is forced to find out the facts fast or go down for his disappearance.

This was wild. I was pulled into this quickly and sucked into Adele’s chaos. While intriguing, I found the plot a little chaotic and by the end I’m not sure if I could tell you who all killed who. The major twist at the very end I did predict and was hoping to be twisted again. I also just couldn’t decide if it was supposed to be an unreliable narrator or if it’s supposed to be more open ended. I think that aspect could use some tweaking or maybe a sequel to answer some lingering questions. Overall, I’d definitely still recommend this and be open to chat killers with someone else who has read!

TW: cheating, stalking, gaslighting, kidnapping, police interrogation
