Book Review: The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray

Behind every impressive collection of any kind is an equally impressive curator. Belle de Costa Greene is the woman responsible for J.P. Morgan’s personal library. The Personal Librarian tells the journey of Belle’s procurement of some of the items that made up the collection as well as details of her personal life and her struggle of keeping her race secret to save her career.

I slept on this book for so long. Historical fiction is admittedly not really my jam most of the time but I selected this for one of my BOTM boxes last year to push myself out of my comfort zone. I’m so glad I did as this was such an intriguing story. This was one of the first author’s note I’ve read over a second time and I plan to do more research on Belle. I highly recommend this for historical fiction fans.
