Book Review: The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams

Aleisha is a bright teenager going through the motions of life swapping shifts to take care of her mom whilst working at the local library. While working at the library, Aleisha discovers a reading list tucked in one of the books she is flipping through. Impulsively, Aleisha decides to checkout every book on list. The books provide her with a much-needed escape from her challenging home life. Her chilly demeanor is thawed when she is flippant to a grieving widower, Mukesh, who has come to the library desperate to connect to his deceased wife through books. Aleisha decides to pass the reading list along to Mukesh so that he can also enjoy the books. The two begin an unexpected but perfectly timed friendship that helps them cope with their grief.

This book is not for the faint of heart! I teared up numerous times while reading this book. There is something that is just so special to me about reading books about reading books. I’ve actually only read two of the books on the reading list mentioned in the book so I’ll be adding the others to my TBR. This is a moving story that reminds us that we should never be afraid to do what is best for us and our mental health - dive into a book if you need an escape, and lean on a friend when you need to share your burdens. I highly recommend this book for all contemporary fiction fans.
